Top Day Trips from Los Angeles

Updated: Dec 27, 2020

Los Angeles- the city of Angels. Also, the city I am lucky enough to call home. The city itself has a plethora of amazing experiences, delicious foods to try, and beautiful sights to see. But, if you want to get out of the city, here are some awesome day trips to take from LA:

1 hour & 20 min

Probably the most popular spot for wine tasting in Southern California. It's also a hot spot for hot air ballooning and golf! So get your girls together for a wine tasting day, or grab your significant other to do a wine taste & romantic hot air balloon ride. Every year they also have a Balloon & Wine Festival where you can see hundreds of balloons in the air, enjoy some wine, and awesome entertainment. Either way you'll definitely enjoy this day trip out of the city!

Laguna Beach

50 min

This is personally my favorite getaway spot in Southern California! There are different beaches in this city that you must see: Victoria Beach (castle-inspired tower built against the cliffs), Thousand Steps Beach (tide pools and 2 man-made pools that fill up with ocean water during high tide), and Crescent Bay are my top choices.

Disneyland (Anaheim)

30 min

This one I know I don't have to explain- people come from all over the world to see the famous Disneyland. There are different ticket prices per day, ranging from $104-154, so make sure to look in advance.

Crystal Cove

50 min

Crystal Cove State Park Historic District is this quaint little town directly on the sand. You can grab a nice brunch at the Beachcomber Cafe with a gorgeous view, and spend the day on the beach. If you go during Christmas time, you can even see the huge tree on the sand and beautiful decorations on all the buildings.

1 hour & 20 min

A beautiful coastal city known for it's nice beaches, flower fields in the spring, and Legoland. Unless you have kids and are heading to Legoland, I can highly recommend checking out the flower fields in the morning, spending the afternoon on the beach, and ending the day at one of the various farmers' markets.

Ojai is a great place for relaxing. It's known for it's beautiful nature, great hiking, wine tasting, and spa retreats. It's definitely a great way to unplug for a day (or even two!).

I'm sure when you think of Malibu you think of million-dollar mansions, celebrities, and beautiful beaches. And yeah, that's pretty accurate. Even though buying a house in Malibu may not be in your budget, a day at the beach definitely is! So head to El Matador Beach, Paradise Cove, Nicholas Canyon Beach, or Zuma Beach. Wherever you go, you're almost guaranteed to have beautiful views!

Santa Monica

20 min

Now this technically might not count as a day trip since it's so close to downtown LA, but it's still an awesome spot. Head to the world-famous boardwalk, enjoy the beach, or walk around the downtown shops.

Venice Beach

20 min

This one also might not count as a day trip, but it's definitely worth a visit when you're in LA. Head to the boardwalk to watch the street performers, shop at the artisan stands, and even watch people work out at muscle beach. It's definitely unique, and you won't forget your experience in Venice!
