How to Plan a Trip: Day by Day

Planning trips is super exciting, but can also feel overwhelming or stressful. You want to do lots of research (that's what I'm here for!) to make sure you get the most out of your trip. One thing that I think is super helpful when I'm planning my trips, is to separate things to do by day. I like this because you make sure you see everything you want to see, in however many days you have there. A tool that will help you immensely is Google Maps. If you have a Google account, you can create your own map itinerary which is so helpful! Here's how:

Step 1

Open up Google maps, and click on the menu bar in upper left corner

Step 2

Click on Your Places

Step 3

Click on "Maps" tab, and create maps at the bottom

Step 4

Drop pins to all the locations you want to see on your trip! You can search the name in the search bar or just click on things you see on the map. Then click "Add to map"

Once it's added to your map, you can edit the name, add a description, add photos, get directions, and even change the color of the pins to categorize things if you'd like! (Tip: make sure to drop the pin for your hotel too!)

So when you're finished, it should look something like this:

Step 5

Look at your finished map with all your pins and split up your itinerary day by day based on pins that are next to each other

Step 6

When you arrive at your destination, you can open up your saved map & click on each pin and get directions from your current location, so easy! (If Google maps doesn't work in your country, like China, or is just a little slow, you can always just type into Apple maps or a local map App since you now know what locations you're hitting that day!)

This is how I like to plan my trips to make sure I see everything I need to see in however many days I have! It's really helpful if you're a visual person, so you can see where everything is in relation to one another. I hope this helps you on your stressful, but exciting, travel planning!
