8 Awesome Places to Add to Your Africa Bucket List

Africa is a continent that I would love to explore more of! It's not typically a place that people have on their bucket list, unless they want to do a safari. But here are 8 places in Africa that are on my bucket list, and I hope you add some to yours too!

1. Boulders Beach, South Africa

This is a popular tourist spot because of a colony of African penguins that settled here in 1982. You don't typically think that white sands and turquoise waters go with penguins... but they do here! Definitely a must-add item to your bucket list.

2. Chefchaouen, Morocco

Often nicknamed as the Blue City or the Blue Pearl of Morocco. Check out this mountainous city thats all painted in different shades of blue. Indulge in delicious Moroccan food, go shopping at one of the many bazaars, and admire the historical architecture.

Average hostel dorm price: $10-14/person

Average daily spending: $20-30 on food/transportation (depending on your traveling style)

3. Giraffe Manor, Kenya

At this quaint hotel in Nairobi, Kenya you get up close and personal with a herd of Rothschild's giraffes that roam the grounds. They even poke their heads into the building during meal times! This 140-acre estate has served as a sanctuary for this endangered sub-species since the mid 1970's. Prices start at a whopping $875 per person, which includes all transportation, all meals and drinks (including house alcohols), and entrance into the Giraffe Center. Although it's expensive, it's definitely a top bucket list item for me!

4. Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

This dormant volcano in Tanzania is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 meters above sea level. Visitors can go climbing, hiking, and wildlife watching when they come visit this famous volcano.

5. Seychelles

This is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of East Africa. It's home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises. Some top islands to check out are Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue.

6. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

This is the ultimate African safari destination! It's famous and well known for its annual migration of over 1.5 million white-bearded wildebeest and 250,000 zebra, which is the largest remaining unaltered animal migration. Although Botswana and Namibia are other popular destinations for safaris, this really is the best option in regards to price, less crowds, and incredible animal experience.

7. Simien Mountains National Park, Ethiopia

This is the largest national park in Ethiopia filled with high mountain peaks, deep valleys, and plateaus. Make sure to check out Mount Bwahit, Jinbar waterfall, and the Simien mountains. When you're up in the Simien mountains you'll have a once in a lifetime experience getting up close & personal with geladas. Geladas are isolated, oddball monkeys that live in large herds- males are the size of large dogs (50-60 pounds), while females are about half of that.

8. Victoria Falls, Zambia & Zimbabwe

These well-known falls are on the Zambezi River, which forms the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It's considered to be one of the world's largest waterfalls due to its width of 1,708 m.
