10 Days in Myanmar

Updated: Apr 3, 2020

There is so much to do in Myanmar that 10 days will only give you a small taste of what this amazing country has to offer. But you can still make the most of your short time here with this itinerary:

Day 1: Yangon

You will most likely fly into Yangon, since it is the capital. So just stay here 1 day. It is plenty of time, it's just a city. This will give you more time in the beautiful nature of Myanmar.

- Shwedagon Pagoda

- Sule Pagoda

- Bogyoke Aung San Market

- Kandawgyi Park/Palace

- Sule Square

- Chaukhtatgyi Paya

- Botahtaung Pagoda

Take the overnight bus to Bagan. It usually leaves around 7pm and you will arrive around 5am the following morning.

Days 2, 3, 4: Bagan

Hop off the overnight bus, check in to your hostel, and take a couple hours to rejuvenate. Then, rent an E-bike and explore the amazing temples in Bagan. It really is ideal to spend 3 days here because there is so much to see. There are hundreds of random dirt paths you can take and explore to find more temples and pagodas. You don't want to rush your time here, it truly was my favorite part about Myanmar. Make sure to see the most famous temples & pagodas:

- Dhamma Ya Zi Ka Pagoda

- Shwe San Daw Pagoda

- Thatbyinnyu Temple

- Shwe Gu Gyi Temple

- Ananda Phaya

- Gubyauk Nge Temple

- Gaw Daw Palin Phaya

- Htilo Minlo Temple

- Le Myet Hna temple

- Iza Gawna Pagoda

On Day 4, take the overnight bus to Kalaw. It usually leaves around 7 or 8pm and arrives at 2 or 3am the following morning.

Days 5, 6, 7: Trekking from Kalaw to Inle Lake

Make sure you communicate with your trekking company via email beforehand to let them know you will arrive early that morning from the bus, and you want to be on the trek for that day. Otherwise you will have to wait until the following day to join a trek.

There is both a 2-day trek and 3-day trek option. But I really do believe the 3-day trek is the best! You get to see more of the beautiful countryside, and you get the authentic Burmese experience by staying in small villages with local people for 2 nights. It truly is one of the best experiences I've ever had while traveling.

You will hike around 6-7 hours on days 1 &2, and on the 3rd day you will hike about 4 hours and then take a boat trip across Inle Lake to Nyuang Shwe around 3pm. Then, you can check into your hostel, shower, and relax from your intense trek you just endured.

Day 8: Inle Lake

Enjoy this relaxing day. You have been non-stop going on overnight buses, treks, and sleeping on the ground in villages, so today is your day to recuperate. Admire the beautiful scenery, and if you feel up to it, you can rent a bicycle or motorbike & go check out the following:

- Inle Lake Boat tour

- The 5 day market

- Red Mountain Estate Winery

- Temple Fusion

- Kyuak Phyu Gyi

- Nigyon Taungyon Paya

- Yadana Man Aung.

- Htet Eain

Take the overnight bus to Mandalay. It usually leaves around 8pm and arrives at 4 or 5am the following morning.

Days 9 & 10: Mandalay

Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar, but most people prefer it over Yangon. You still have city vibes with the hustle and bustle, but there is a lot more to do in the city and surrounding areas. So utilize these 2 days to check out the following:

- Hsinbyume Pagoda

- Mingun Pahtodawgyi

- Umin Thonse Pagoda

- Inwa Ancient City

- Mandalay Palace

- Shwenandaw Monastery

- Sandamuni Pagoda

- Kuthodaw Pawa

- Mandalay Hill

From here you have 2 options: fly home or get back to Yangon to fly home. If you fly out of Mandalay the airport is about 45 minutes from downtown and a taxi will cost a whopping 20,000 MMK. Check with your hostel for shuttle service or the local bus. If you need to get back to Yangon airport you can either fly or take the bus which will take about 10 hours.

Myanmar is an amazing country whose tourism is on the rise! Enjoy your 10-day taste of this beautiful country and hopefully you can come back to enjoy even more.
